  • Maybe. Graduate programs can only determine your eligibility after you have submitted an application and after the review of all necessary documents required to complete your application. However, you may view the specific admissions criteria, deadlines, and test score requirements for each program from our admission requirement pages.

  • No.* The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will not allow students to be conditionally admitted if they also require a student visa. If you would require immigration documents (like a Form I-20) to study at Texas State, you must meet the requirements for regular or Bridge admission as defined on the individual admission requirement pages.

    *If you do not require a F1/F2 or J1/J2 visa in order to study at Texas State (either because you a Permanent Resident of the US or a US Citizen), conditional admission may be granted as long the program offers it.

  • No. The Graduate College will conduct its own evaluation of your transcripts and degree certificates. Our evaluation will be based on the specific grading criteria of your country, university, college, and/or degree program and will be converted into the U.S. grading system for the purposes of admission consideration only.   • Yes (except when your university already issues your official transcript and degree certificates in English). If your university does not issue your transcripts or degree certificates in English, you must provide an official English translation of those documents. These translations do not require evaluation of your grades or credits. For more information on qualified translation services, please visit Required Documents.

  • Yes. However, you will not be able to register for your courses until we have your official transcripts on file. For more information about the requirements for your transcripts, please visit Required Documents.

  • Speak with your degree-granting university's Registrar or Controller of Examinations Office again. We must have the official, university-issued and sealed transcripts in order for you to enroll. For the majority of universities and countries, your college will be affiliated to a larger university that has the authority to issue your official transcripts in the format that we require. For all other circumstances and considerations to use unofficial transcripts, you must provide evidence that your degree-granting university cannot provide your transcripts in the required format for admission. This evidence must be submitted to The Graduate College either by the university's Registrar or Controller of Examinations or seen publicly on their website.   • You did not upload the appropriate documents to our office. The Graduate College requires transcripts (including all marks sheets) to be issued by the accredited, degree-granting university's registrar or controller of examinations, not the college's principal or dean. More information about the requirements for your transcripts can be found on Required Documents.

  • Your documents did not arrive in the format requested. The Graduate College requires transcripts (including all marks sheets) to be issued by the accredited, degree-granting university's registrar or controller of examinations, not the college's principal or dean. You can locate the reason your transcript was not approved in the “item description” field via Texas State Self-Service. More information about the requirements for your transcripts can be found on Required Documents.

  • No*, The Graduate College will only allow degrees equivalent to the 4-year U.S. bachelor's degree for admission into a graduate program. Degrees not eligible for graduate admission include (but are not limited to) the 3-year bachelor of commerce, arts, or science degrees from India and the 3-year bachelor degree program from Nepal.

    *The Graduate College may accept 3-year degrees in certain situations: 3-year degrees that are equivalent to a 4-year U.S. bachelor's degree or 3-year degrees combined with specific post-graduate degrees. Examples of such combinations include, but are not limited to:

    • Completion of a 3-year bachelors degree and completion of an additional 2-year master's degree program
    • Completion of a 3-year bachelors degree and completion of an additional 1 or 2-year post-graduate diploma (PGD) degree program

  • Your most recent transcripts. The Graduate College will evaluate your degree program's length and expected graduation date to determine if a degree certificate (provisional or final) can be submitted or not. If you are still studying in your degree program and will be graduating after the application deadline for Texas State's program entry, The Graduate College will temporarily waive your requirement for a final degree certificate. If you are admitted to Texas State, you will be required to submit both your final transcripts and your degree certificate (final or provisional).   • Diploma = Degree Certificate, Graduating Certificate, and/or Provisional Degree Certificate. The Graduate College must see a copy of each of your degree statements earned in order to satisfy the "University Diploma" requirement. This would include all undergraduate, post-graduate, and graduate degree certificates (bachelors, master's, doctoral, post-graduate diploma, etc.). You must submit a document showing the name of the degree you earned, the university that awarded that degree, and the date in which the degree had been granted. For more information about this requirement, please visit Required Documents.

  • 2.75 on a 4.00 scale*. The Graduate College will determine your admissions GPA by evaluating the grades earned during your last 60 hours of course work (or about 20 classes worth) when applying to a master's-level program. When applying to a doctoral program, The Graduate College will determine your admissions GPA by evaluating the grades earned during your entire graduate program. Although there is a lot of complexity in The Graduate College's evaluation and GPA calculation process, most applicants will be eligible for admission as long as they have scored passing marks in their last 20 subjects and earned a final classification of award of First or Second Class. If you did not earn a First or Second Class classification, but you did earn Pass Class marks, you may or may not have made the cut off for admission. In this case, The Graduate College still recommends the completion of an application to fully determine the degree equivalency and admissions GPA outcome.

      Many programs require a higher GPA for admission consideration. Please review the specific program's admission requirements through the appropriate admission requirements websites.

  • Maybe. The Graduate College may view applicants who have earned degrees in certain countries as automatically exempt from submitting the English proficiency requirements for admission. Work experience, time spent in the U.S., or any other factor outside of an official TOEFL or IELTS test score will not be considered for admission consideration. For more information regarding the requirements to earn a TOEFL/IELTS waiver, please visit English Proficiency Requirements.

      Applicants who have only been awarded degrees from India, Nepal, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana, or Zimbabwe must submit a TOEFL or IELTS test score for admission consideration.

  • Maybe. The Graduate College may view applicants who have earned degrees in certain countries as automatically exempt from submitting the English proficiency requirements for admission. Work experience, time spent in the U.S., or any other factor outside of an official TOEFL or IELTS test score will not be considered for admission consideration.   • Maybe. Students studying under a certain visas including H4/H1B, or who hold Permanent Residency or Citizenship status in the U.S. may qualify for in-state tuition at Texas State. To be reviewed for in-state tuition, the university's Residency Office must review your file and have your completed their Residency Questionnaire Form on file.   • Applying for Spring 2020 or Summer 2020: Graduate, U.S. If you do not require any immigration documents to study at Texas State (like a Form I-20 or F1 Student Visa), you must submit the "Graduate, U.S." application on ApplyTexas.org. You only need to submit the "Graduate, International" application if you require a Form I-20 for the processing of creating your F1 Student Visa.

  • Yes (for qualified applicants). The Graduate College and the individual degree programs offer scholarships and financial aid opportunities that all international students may apply for after submitting their application for admission. Scholarships are highly competitive and merit-based; therefore, it is recommended that applicants apply early (before a program's priority deadline date, if possible) and submit all materials for the scholarship early.

    Assistantships are offered exclusively through the degree program's departments and are only given to those students that have been regularly admitted, who maintain full time graduate enrollment, and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. It is recommended that interested applicants communicate directly with their degree program's graduate advisor for all assistantship opportunities and questions. The contact information for graduate advisors is found within the program's admission requirement websites.

  • Approximately 4-6 weeks after your application becomes "Complete and ready for review." As soon as your last document for admission is collected and processed by The Graduate College, your application status will become "Complete and ready for review." At this time, The Graduate College begins to evaluate your admissions GPA and makes all admission documents available to the individual departments for review of your admission consideration.   • After admission has been granted, the university's International Office will contact you regarding the instructions to create your Form I-20. The Graduate College will work with the International Office to process any necessary immigration documents you may need to study at Texas State, including your Form I-20. Any documents related to the creation of your Form I-20 will only be requested of you after admission has been granted.
