Running with the Graduate Deans kicked off the 4th of July holiday weekend by joining the Firecracker 5K run. For the second year in a row, there was strong participation from the Texas State graduate education community with a total of ten runners and walkers who completed the course through the Five Mile Dam Park and surrounding areas. Graduate students from a variety of graduate programs, staff from different offices, and several spouses of students and staff joined the deans of the toasty but fun evening run/walk.

Congratulations to Vicky Geisler who finished 1st in her age group, and to those participants for whom this was their first 5K event. Nice work, one and all!

As part of its fundraising efforts, The Graduate College adds the equivalent pf the race entry fee into a scholarship account for each runner/walker who completes the race wearing a Running with the Graduate Deans shirt. Moreover, for each race participant who finished ahead of both deans, The Graduate College adds the equivalent of not one, but two race entry fees into the scholarship account. For this year’s Firecracker 5K, the Running with the Graduate Deans group raised $250 for scholarships.

Be sure to check out the photos and video from the race and get yourself ready for the next one! Remember, all participants receive a free shirt and reap the benefits, physical and otherwise, of a good run.
