2012 IRC

The Fourth Annual International Research Conference for Graduate Students held on November 7–8, 2012 at the LBJ Student Center attracted abstracts from 150 authors and co-authors. Students and judges were from Texas State as well as from other institutions including Texas Tech, University of Texas at Austin, Abilene Christian University, LeTourneau University, University of North Texas, University of Ljubljana, Instituto Technologico de Monterrey, Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Kookmin University, and South China University of Technology-Guangzhou.

The conference opened on November 7th with a panel on Global Research Issues to mark our University’s Common Experience theme, “Global Odyssey: Exploring our connections to the changing world.” Dr. Augustine Agwuele, Associate Professor of Linguistics, Department of Anthropology, Dr. Steven A. Beebe, Regents' and University Distinguished Professor and Chair, Department of Communication Studies, Lauren M. Roig, graduate student in International Studies, and Taonga Chirwa, graduate student in Human Nutrition and Fulbright Scholar from Zambia presented their research on this panel. Dr. Dennis Dunn, Director of the Center for International Studies was the panel moderator.

Dr. Leon Stefanija, Professor of Musicology, Department of Musicology / Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana delivered the keynote address titled, “Nationalism and the Arts in our Globalizing World Today”.

On November 8th, University Distinguished Professors of Biology at Texas State, Dr. Robert McLean and Dr. Paula Williamson, presented their research on the Distinguished Research Panel from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Dr. Cindy Royal, Associate Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Texas State made a presentation on “Researching Digital Media” during the luncheon session from12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Concurrent sessions with student presentations were held all day long. Graduate students from various disciplines received feedback from faculty judges and ASG Graduate House representatives served as moderators.
