Faculty devote time to student-centered learning in classrooms, laboratories and community settings. Members of the graduate faculty are nationally known for their research, teaching, and service within the profession. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including neuromuscular, exercise physiology, biomechanics and sport medicine, motor ability and sport pedagogy laboratories.

Application Fee(s)

  • $40 nonrefundable application fee
  • $50 nonrefundable international evaluation fee (if applicable)

Transcripts & GPA

  • baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university
  • a copy of an official transcript from each institution where course credit was granted
  • minimum 3.0 GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses)
  • background course work in physical education

  If your last-60-hours GPA is 3.0 or below, official GRE scores are required. Read additional information below.

GRE Scores

Documents

  • resume/CV
  • statement of purpose (typed, double-spaced, and approximately 500 words) addressing the following:
    • professional goals
    • reasons for pursuing education and training in physical education
    • summary of major strengths and weaknesses with respect to being admitted into the program
  • three letters of recommendation (including at least two academic references) regarding professional competence and character

  Review the instructions for using the Graduate Admissions Document Upload tool (GADU) to submit your documents. You will have access to GADU after you submit your ApplyTexas application and activate your Texas State NetID.


TOEFL scores for MAC applicants

Non-native English speakers who do not qualify for an English proficiency waiver:

  • official TOEFL iBT scores with minimum individual scores of
    • 19 listening
    • 19 reading
    • 26 speaking
    • 19 writing

This program does not offer admission if the scores above are not met.

TOEFL or IELTS scores for non-MAC applicants

Non-native English speakers who do not qualify for an English proficiency waiver:

  • official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall
  • official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and
    • minimum individual module scores of 6.0

This program does not offer admission if the scores above are not met.

Additional Information

  GPA and GRE Requirement
If your last-60-hours GPA is 2.99 or below, official GRE scores with a preferred minimum of 291 (verbal and quantitative sections combined) will be required in order to be considered for conditional admission*. Our office will notify you via email should this occur.

*Conditional admission is not available to applicants who require "F" or "J" visas.
