With an explicit focus on cultural responsiveness and equity-oriented practices for the diverse classrooms of Texas, teachers completing the program will enhance their own teaching within the classroom, develop skills for assisting other teachers and learn how to become part of collaborative efforts aimed at school/district-wide instructional improvement.

You will be eligible to take the Texas Education Agency principal certificate exam upon successful completion of specific program requirements.

Application Fee(s)

  • $40 nonrefundable application fee
  • $50 nonrefundable international evaluation fee (if applicable)
  • $55 nonrefundable Texas Education Agency technology fee (if offered admission to the master's + professional certification program)

Transcripts & GPA

  • baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university
  • a copy of an official transcript from each four-year institution where course credit was granted
  • minimum 2.75 GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses)

  Review the instructions for submitting your transcripts. Official transcripts will be required if admission is granted. 


GRE Scores

  • GRE scores not required

Documents

  • copy of your official teaching certificate documenting initial teaching certification
  • copy of your official teaching record documenting at least one year of teaching experience

  Review the instructions for using the Graduate Admissions Document Upload tool (GADU) to submit your documents. You will have access to GADU after you submit your ApplyTexas application and activate your Texas State NetID.


TOEFL scores for M.Ed (principal certification) applicants

Non-native English speakers who do not qualify for an English proficiency waiver:

  • official TOEFL iBT scores with minimum individual scores of
    • 19 listening
    • 19 reading
    • 26 speaking
    • 19 writing

This program does not offer admission if the scores above are not met.

TOEFL or IELTS scores for M.A. (instructional leadership) applicants

Non-native English speakers who do not qualify for an English proficiency waiver:

  • official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall
  • official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and
    • minimum individual module scores of 6.0

This program does not offer admission if the scores above are not met.
