Sights & Sounds of Christmas 5K and 1K Jingle Bell Run
What a tough crowd the Running with the Grad Deans participants are! Despite the inclement weather, a total of 17 runners and walkers participated in Saturday’s Jingle Bell 5k. At the carb loading pasta lunch on Friday, all of us were a bit worried about the gloomy weather forecast. And unfortunately, the forecast was correct. The torrential rains early Saturday morning tempted more than one of us to stay in bed rather than to venture out into the cold, but then the weather gods took pity on us. At packet pick-up and at the start, it was cloudy but dry. Sadly, however, that weather break was short-lived – soon after we were under way, a slow but steady rain ensued. The rain did not dampen our spirits, though! We had several runners for whom this was their very first 5k, while for others it was the first 5k after a running hiatus, while others improved their PR, or placed in their age groups. Way to go Dede, Kimberly, Chris, Noel and Eric! And one runner celebrated his birthday on race day – Happy Birthday, Yogi! We even had a runner in the Kid’s 1k who probably enjoyed jumping over (and into) the puddles more than any of us did. But even that 4-year-old made a bee line for the hot cocoa at the end of the race. He darted off so fast that race officials had to chase after him to give him his trophy! Thanks to everyone who participated – by participating, you raised $450 for scholarships (17x$25, plus $25 extra since Noel beat both deans).
Our next event will be the Purgatory Trail Run on January 15, where runners will have a choice between a 5k and a 10 mile run. And yes, we will have a pasta lunch the day before, RSVP here. If you are back in town from the winter break, we hope you’ll come join us.
