Sights & Sounds of Christmas 5K and 1K Jingle Bell Run
The Sights & Sounds of Christmas 5K and 1K Jingle Bell Run held in early December is traditionally the largest race in San Marcos. This year, the race broke all previous attendance records with close to 700 participants!
The Graduate College’s Running with the Graduate Deans group was again well-represented with ten 5K participants and three children running in the 1K Jingle Bell Run, raising a total of $325 for scholarships. The race began with a fly-over of historic planes. While visions of hot chocolate danced in their heads, the runners listened to cheery Christmas music as well as lively announcers throughout the course. Running with elves and Santas also helped to keep spirits high! The mayor of San Marcos attended the awards ceremony as the race presented Santa trophies and goodies bags (that even included a technical running shirt for all the good girls and boys).
This year, the Running with the Graduate Deans program donated a total of $1,195 to the graduate scholarship and fellowship fund! Certainly all the participants will be on Santa’s nice list this year.
