In anticipation of the 4th of July holiday weekend, Running with the Graduate Deans participated in the 2015 Firecracker 5k Evening Run. It was a beautiful day for a race! A brief rain shower earlier in the day had cooled the temperatures somewhat and there was a slight breeze – for a summer day in Texas, not bad at all!

The race was held at the 5 Mile Dam Park. Most of the recent flood damage there had been repaired, while the river itself was fast flowing but serene. A total of 128 runners participated in the race, with five Running with the Graduate Deans participants wearing their cool racing shirts and an additional five participants in plain shirts (remember, you can get a free Running with the Graduate Deans shirt at any affiliated running event that you participate in!). Congratulations to all who finished, with special kudos to Holly Tipton for whom this was her first race experience and to Pete Gonzalez, who won second place in his age group! Be sure to check out the pix and videos – we hope that they will help you catch some of the race spirit, and inspire you to participate in one of our upcoming events!
