The Sixth Annual International Research Conference for Graduate Students held on November 5–6, 2014 at the LBJ Student Center was a great success.  This year there were about 80 graduate student poster and paper presentations with more than 120 student authors/coauthors participating in the event.  The presentations covered a wide range of topics from a variety of disciplines.  Students and judges were from Texas State as well as from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas Tech University, Abilene Christian University.

Graduate Dean Dr. Andrea Golato welcomed the gathering on November 6th at the conference opening and reception. Dr. Taylor W Acee, Assistant Professor, Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Tom Grimes, Professor, Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Ting Liu, Assistant Professor, Health and Human Performance, and Dr. Melinda Villagran, Professor and Chair, Communication Studies, talked about various aspects of research on the Distinguished Research Panel.  Graduate House Representative, Megan Holmes, served as the moderator of the panel.  This was followed by a reception and poster session.

The following students were the winners of this year’s Research Contest for graduate students:

Top Doctoral Paper:  Monica C Medel Valdivia, Geography,Texas State University
Top Master’s Paper:  Arin E Ely, Communication Studies, Texas State University

Concurrent panel sessions with student presentations were held all day long on November 6th.  Graduate students from various disciplines received feedback from faculty panel chairs and Graduate House representatives and other graduate students served as moderators of some of the panels.
