DEADLINES


The Graduate College will continue to process applications received after the deadline for this program, on a first-come, first-served basis, with no guarantees for admission.  Applications that have been received too late to process for the specified semester will be processed for the next available semester of admission for that program.

ADMISSION AS A MASTER'S STUDENT:

Complete an Application for Admission to the Graduate College and return it to the Office of the Graduate College. Submit a non-refundable $40.00 application fee (check or money order in U.S. currency) made payable to Texas State.
A $50.00 (U.S. currency) international/evaluation fee is required if the application is considered for admission based on foreign credentials. Please Note: Students who change their admission status must pay the fee associated with their application status. Degree-seeking students changing majors and/or seeking multiple degrees are required to complete a new application and pay the $40 fee.

  •  You may apply online through the ApplyTexas Application. Please allow 2 working days for the application to be received by Texas State.

TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS:
If you are a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are currently enrolled, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide the Texas State transcripts.

 

If you are not a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are not currently enrolled, one official transcript from each college or university attended is required. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the university or college attended or submitted in a sealed university envelope with the university's registrar's signature on the back of the envelope.

REGULAR ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

You must have a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours of letter-grade work earned before receipt of your Bachelor's (plus any previously completed graduate or professional work,) Bachelor's degree in biology or related discipline, and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to admission with a preferred score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined).
    Submit Directly to Department:
       1)  Current curriculum vitae
       2)  Statement of goals
       3)  Three (3) letters of recommendation   
       4)  Thesis students only: Intent to Mentor letter from a Biology Department
            faculty member

  

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION WILL BE CONSIDERED:
If you have a GPA lower than a 3.0 on the last 60 hours of your undergraduate course work, you may petition the Department for conditional admission.  The Graduate Advisor will decide, based upon the documents listed below, that are submitted to the Department.  You must have a Bachelor's degree in biology or related discipline and
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to admission with a preferred score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined).
    Submit Directly to Department:
       1)  Current curriculum vitae
       2)  Statement of goals
       3)  Three (3) letters of recommendation
       4)  Thesis students only: Intent to Mentor letter from a Biology Department
