Mathematics Education




DEADLINES

The Graduate College will continue to process applications received after the deadline for Mathematics Education.  Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with no guarantees for admission.  If the deadline of the semester for which you wish to apply has passed, you may submit a paper Application for Admission (PDF) OR INTERNATIONAL Application for Admission (PDF).

ADMISSION AS A DOCTORAL STUDENT:
Complete an Application for Admission to the Graduate College and return it to the Office of the Graduate College. Submit a non-refundable $40.00 application fee (check or money order in U.S. currency) made payable to Texas State.
Please Note: Students who change their admission status must pay the fee associated with their application status. Degree-seeking students changing majors and/or seeking multiple degrees are required to complete a new application and pay the $40 fee.

 
TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS:
If you are a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are currently enrolled, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide the Texas State transcripts.  

If you are not a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are not currently enrolled, one official transcript from each college or university attended is required. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the institutions to the Office of the Graduate College.

REGULAR ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
You must have a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 undergraduate semester hours of letter-grade work earned before receipt of your Bachelor's (plus any previously completed graduate or professional work) OR a GRE Mathematics subject test score of 75th percentile or greater.  Also, a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field is required.  Demonstration of interest in a career as an educator and potential to contribute to the advancement of education professional leadership.  Submit your Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score prior to admission consideration with a preferred minimum score of 1100, verbal and quantitative combined.    
    Submit Directly to Department:

       1) 500 word essay of applicant's background and professional goals
       2)
Interview with program faculty
       3) 3 letters of recommendation

Candidates who do not meet the above requirements may apply for conditional admittance.

TOEFL REQUIREMENTS:
The
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required to apply to the Graduate College if English is not your native language. You must have an official score on file in the office of the Graduate College before your application is evaluated.  Scores must be sent directly to the office of the Graduate College from the Educational Testing Center with at least:

  • Paper-Based – 600 minimum
  • Internet-Based Test minimums – 78 total score with the 4 minimum section scores of 19/reading, 19/listening, 19/speaking, and 18/writing
  • IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 or higher with minimum individual module scores of 6.0
