ADMISSION AS A Ph.D. STUDENT:

Complete an Application for Admission to the Graduate College and return it to the Office of the Graduate College. Submit a non-refundable $40.00 application fee (check or money order in U.S. currency) made payable to Texas State. A $50.00 (U.S currency) international/evaluation fee is required if the application is considered for admission based on foreign credentials. Please Note: Students who change their admission status must pay the fee associated with their application status. Degree-seeking students changing majors and/or seeking multiple degrees are required to complete a new application and pay the $40 fee.


TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS:
If you are a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are currently enrolled, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide the Texas State transcripts.

 

If you are not a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are not currently enrolled, one official transcript from each senior level post secondary institution attended is required. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the university or college attended or submitted in a sealed university envelope with the university's registrar's signature on the back of the envelope.

REGULAR ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
You must have a Master's Degree with a 3.5 GPA on you graduate work.  For Fall 2007 admission, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required prior to admission with a preferred score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined.)  The GRE will be discontinued Fall 2008.    
    Submit Directly to Department:

       1) Essay (about 500 words describing your background and professional
           goals)
       2) Interview with program Faculty
       3) Three (3) completed recommendation forms addressing professional and  
           academic background
       4) Current Resume

In addition to the Graduate College application, the Ph.D. in Education requires the completion of additional materials, which can be accessed online at http://www.education.txstate.edu/degrees-programs/Ph-D.html.  Please submit the completed materials directly to the College of Education.
