ADMISSION AS A Ph.D. STUDENT:
Complete an Application for Admission to the Graduate College and return it to the Office of the Graduate College. Submit a non-refundable $40.00 application fee (check or money order in U.S. currency) made payable to Texas State. A $50.00 (U.S currency) international/evaluation fee is required if the application is considered for admission based on foreign credentials. Please Note: Students who change their admission status must pay the fee associated with their application status. Degree-seeking students changing majors and/or seeking multiple degrees are required to complete a new application and pay the $40 fee.
TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS:
If you are a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are currently enrolled, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide the Texas State transcripts.
If you are not a Texas State University-San Marcos degree recipient or are not currently enrolled, one official transcript from each senior level post secondary institution attended is required. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the university or college attended or submitted in a sealed university envelope with the university's registrar's signature on the back of the envelope. (If you are a Texas State University - San Marcos degree recipient or are currently enrolled, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State University transcript. The Graduate College will provide Texas State transcripts.)
REGULAR ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Please submit the completed materials directly to Dr. Mark Stafford, Ph.D. Advisor in the Department of Criminal Justice.
You must have a Master's Degree wtih a GPA of 3.5 or better on all completed graduate work. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required prior to admission with a preferred score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative combined).
Submit Directly to Department:
1) Three (3) letters of recommendation indicating your skills and capacity to be successful
in the Ph.D. program.
2) Letter Outlining your personal history and life goals that are relevant to obtaining a doctoral degree.
